GROUND PREPARATION
Correct ground preparation is the most important part of any drive and paving project. Without the proper preparation and materials it will simply crack. This is because the top layer of Concrete will not be properly supported underneath.
Too often, companies offer very cheap Imprinted Concrete installations, but leave out the sub-base so they can make more profit. It may look good when it is finished, but within a few weeks or months it will be open to cracking.
We are meticulous in our ground preparation because we have a reputation to uphold and want you to be satisfied with our work for many years. We pride ourselves on our reputation, and as a local company its not in our interest to carry out sub-standard work.
We would normally spend over half of the installation time preparing the ground, digging the foundation, laying the sub grade and sub base, installing drainage if needed, installing any necessary kerbs and walls, and levelling the bedding layer before finally laying the concrete. A typical driveway installation is explained below.
Sub-Grade
We dig the surface area out to a depth of approx 300mm. This allows for the depth of 200mm sub-base and 100mm for the concrete.
All weeds and other unwanted material is removed, and we excavate any soft spots and fill with compacted sub-base material. We then install a high quality landscape fabric to ensure you don’t have any nasty weeds or roots appearing in the future.
Edge Course
Edging courses are optional with Concrete Imprinted Driveways as it forms it’s own solid edge, but different gradients on driveways can require low walls, bullnose kerbs or standard flat top edgings.
Pouring of Concrete
We surround the areas of the your house (doors, windows and brickwork) with heavy duty plastic to prevent unwanted splashes when we poor and level the concrete.
Colouring of Concrete
We then add you chosen colour for the imprint which is added to the concrete when ready to float in.
Stamping the Concrete
Your chosen style of print is then stamped into the concrete. This is all worked on timing and knowledge of when the concrete is ready to print for the maximum effect.
Washing and Cutting
Once all the above has been completed, your driveway is left for a maximum of 48 hours to completely set and it is then washed and expansion joints are then cut every 10 meters to relieve the stresses and tension on the concrete and reduce the risk of cracking.
The Final Result
A stunning drive, expertly designed, planned and installed, leaving the customer 100% satisfied.
